Sandra Marlene Ladle Welling passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer at the age of 72. She is now reunited with her loving parents.
Marlene was born on February 22, 1953 to Orvel and Lila Ladle in Utah as the final of 4 children. Her early years were spent causing trouble on the family farm. The family later moved to Salt Lake City around the time she started school. She was an excellent student with an attention to detail that she benefited from her entire life. After graduating from high school, she pursued further education as a medical and dental assistant.
She met Wayne Welling and married in 1974. They had 5 children whom she adored and devoted her time to. They later divorced, but consistently supported each other in raising their children. Those 5 children blessed her with 14 grandchildren. There was no one she made more time for than her grandchildren and children. She loved to attend everyone’s events and hear every detail about what was going on in their lives. She was genuinely interested in her family’s successes and accomplishments.
She chose jobs that allowed her to be available to her children as much as possible. Some of those jobs included Ogden Temple cafeteria worker, crossing guard, lunch lady, and working at a local garden nursery.
She was an unwavering follower of Jesus Christ and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many callings and magnified them. She especially enjoyed fulfilling her visiting teaching/ministering assignments. Attending church on Sundays and visiting the temple were among her top priorities.
Some of her interests included gardening, playing board games, scenic drives, and spending time with family and friends. She particularly enjoyed Aggravation, Chinese Checkers, Tiddly Winks, Berenstain Bears card game, Peanut Butter and Jelly card game, and Cookin’ Cookies card game. She also enjoyed watching shows such as Little House on the Prairie, I Love Lucy, Leave it to Beaver, Andy Griffith, and Judge Judy.
Marlene is best described as genuine, hard working, loving, faithful, and the best mother/sister/grandma/everything anyone could ever ask for. She left a positive impact everywhere she went. Among her final words were, “I love you all.”
