Richard J. Spivey

In Loving Memory of: Richard J. Spivey

Richard “Rick” Spivey; age 68, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 20, 2025, after a courageous battle with colon cancer.

Rick was born in Pensacola, Florida, on December 17, 1956.  Rick dedicated his life to service and family. Rick was a devoted public servant, dedicating 42 years to the United States government. He began his career as an X-ray technician for the U.S. Army and later transitioned to a role as a computer programmer for the Veterans Affairs.

Afterwards, he attended the University of Florida. He married the love of his life, Donna, on August 8, 1981. Together, they built a loving family, raising two children and adopting a daughter from Lithuania in 1996.

He was a well-loved member of the community. Rick was deeply involved in helping families through Children's House International, an organization dedicated to assisting families with international adoptions. He served on the board of directors for Children's House International from 1997 to 2016, serving as President during some of that time period.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James W. Spivey, Jr, and his mother, Nancy Griffin.  Rick is survived by his Aunt Jennie Littrell, his sisters Terri Swanson, Joyce Johns, and brother Darren Griffin. Rick is also survived by his wife Donna Spivey, his daughter Jennifer "Niki" Whitehorse (Derik), his son Ryan Spivey, and his daughter Krista Spivey. He will be deeply missed by his three grandchildren, whom he loved dearly: Braedan Snyder, Rachael Snyder, and Ender Rasmusen.

Rick’s biggest accomplishment was recently obeying the gospel, being baptised, and being added to Christ’s church.  He will be deeply missed for his warmth, laughter, and unwavering love for his family and friends.  Rick's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held on May 3, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Salt Lake Church of Christ at 747 E S Temple St #110, Salt Lake City, UT 84102.
