Mary was born on July 24, 1941, in Los Angeles, California to Josephine Knowles and Cyril Henry Bullock. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on May 29, 2024.
Mary was an honors graduate of Lennox High School in Inglewood, California. She excelled in school and was very active in academic clubs.
She married the love of her life, William Pier, on June 18, 1960 in the Los Angeles Temple. They raised five children: Tom (Shauna), Bob (Lisa), Cindy (Mike) Mitchell, Jim (Kristy), and Brian (Polly). They raised their family in Inglewood, California, and Redondo Beach, California, where Mary helped Bill build his business in survival food and equipment.
In the 1980’s Mary and Bill moved to Provo, Utah, where they met their best friends, Tom and Marilyn Alexander and spent most Fridays at dinner and a movie. Every summer found the quartet in Cedar City, Utah for the annual Shakespeare Festival.
Mary was always generous with her time and talents - helping her kids, entertaining a wide circle of friends, and contributing to her church. Her talent as a pianist and organist were frequently called upon, in every ward that they lived in and especially when she and Bill were on their missions in Indonesia Jakarta, South Africa Durbin, South Africa Johannesburg, Florida Fort Lauderdale, and at the Provo Missionary Training Center. She was also quite willing to drive the family motor home as they traveled across the country, or if a large group needed to go out late at night for a clandestine T-P-ing run.
Mary had a wide variety of hobbies, from sewing clothes and costumes for her children and grandchildren, cross-stitching, quilting, crocheting, and puzzles of all types. She also loved reading and re-reading her beloved murder mysteries.
Her later years were enriched with a wide variety of grandchildren (17), and recently, her great-grandchildren (16, plus 3 expecting).
Mary will be buried in the Salt Lake City Cemetery at a family graveside service on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 11:00 am.
