Maro Melcomian Simonian
January 20, 1928 — October 28, 2024
Heaven gained a remarkable angel on Tuesday October 28, 2024. Her angelic and kind smile could heal any ailment or take away sadness. Maro Melcomian Simonian was born in Isfahan (Julfa), Iran on January 20, 1928 to Nazar and Helen Melcomian. They later moved to Tehran, Iran in 1944 with their four children.
It was later in Tehran where Maro and Garnik Simonian met and were married on October 11, 1950. They had two children, Yasmen and Simone. Maro strived tirelessly and with resolve for twelve years to bring her family to United States in search of better lives, being close to her brother Mel and his family; and access to advanced education for her children. Her dream was finally realized and the Simonians immigrated to America on September 1, 1967 and made Salt Lake City, Utah their home.
Stover Bedding was Maro’s first employment where she put her sewing expertise to use and worked there for many years. She consequently found employment in retail business starting with the Paris Company, Weinstocks, ZCMI, Arthur Frank and Master Jewelers. Everything she did was to make sure her family was well taken care of and her children were successful in their educational endeavors.
One of Maro’s passions was to learn how to paint. A dream that her son Simone later realized as an accomplished artist. He continues to exhibit his art in the community and makes his family proud.
Maro was a member of the Salt Lake Business and Professional Women (BPW) and received the Woman of the Year award from that chapter in 1997. She also volunteered at St. Marks Hospital for over twenty years. She was loved by many. Knowing Maro was to love her. She had coffee parties for her family and friends while she entertained them by reading their coffee cups.
Maro was preceded in death by her husband, Garnik Simonian, her brothers Mel, Saro and sister Nelo Melcomians. She is survived by her daughter Yasmen, Son Simone, nieces Shelley Zimmer, Melanie Mancini, Jennifer Melcomian, many other family members and dear friends.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the adopted family, residents and caregivers of the Twin Oaks Assisted Living for their care and love. The gratitude is also extended to the Cascade Springs Home Health & Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a charity of your choice or to the scholarship fund in Maro Simonian’s name to Weber State University, the Dr. Ezekiel College of Health Professions
