Kathryn Ranell Moncur

Kathryn Ranell Moncur - Obituary - Salt Lake City Utah - Inspired Funeral Home

In Loving Memory of: Kathryn Ranell Moncur

January 29, 1950 – August 18, 2025

Aunts often hold a special place in the hearts of their loved ones. They serve as confidantes, mentors, and cherished friends. Their absence creates a void that is hard to fill because losing an aunt is like losing a guiding star. Aunts are a special blend of a Mother, Sister, and Friend. Ranell was all of this and so much more – being an Aunt was one of Ranell’s greatest joys…

With very heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our cherished sister, friend, cousin, aunt, and best great-aunt anyone could have asked for. Kathryn Ranell Moncur returned home on August 18, 2025, after a long battle with multiple health conditions.

Born on January 29th, 1950, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Lee & Wyma (Cobbley) Moncur. Ranell was one of five children, with two brothers, Russell and Douglas, and two sisters, Judy and Florence, whom she dearly loves.

Ranell, from birth, was known for her feisty spirit, quick wit, and fierce compassion. She never stayed quiet about the things that mattered most to her; the eye rolls alone could say it all. No one ever had to wonder what she was thinking; she would always be happy to tell you, but more often than not, her expressions spoke louder than words. That famous eye roll became one of her trademarks, and it is something we all will surely miss.

Ranell had a big heart that never stopped giving or caring for others. She was the family’s go-to person whom you called for advice, comfort, or medical knowledge—then she would always follow up with her signature “just checking in” calls to make sure you were okay or to see what you might need. That was Ranell: always taking care of everyone else first.

Ranell graduated from Bingham High School in Copperton and then pursued higher education at SLCC of Health Science, obtaining her associate's degree. She later became a member of the Alpha Beta Cappa Sorority while completing her CLS bachelor’s degree at the University of Utah.

Her career reflected her passion for both healthcare and education. Ranell worked in hospitals across Nevada, Idaho, Arizona, and Utah before transitioning into higher education. As Dean of Education at the Bryman School, she was honored with the “Best Teacher” award by her students—a recognition that meant the world to her. Later, she was the Associate Dean at Stevens Henager College, where she helped develop procedures & curriculum.

On November 24, 1979, Ranell married Russell Raymond Marshall. Together, they welcomed a baby girl, Miss Kaylynn Marshall, who was stillborn. Though her daughter’s time was brief, Ranell said Kaylynn taught her one of life’s greatest lessons—the true meaning of unconditional love.

Family was the center of Ranell’s world. She especially loved spending time camping and fishing, with Silver Lake being her favorite getaway. She also found joy in sewing, painting, and crafting—but most of all, she enjoyed giving her creations to others.

May Ranell’s legacy of kindness, love, helpfulness, nurturing, and best of all, her fun sarcasm, endure in the hearts of all who knew her. Her absence will be forever felt because of the memories and lessons she left behind.

Preceded in death: Lee & Wyma (Cobbley) Moncur, Russell Don Taylor, Florence Taylor & Don Sandquist. Lynette Sandquist, Tracy Sandquist, Timothy Sandquist & Travis Moncur.

Survived by: Judy (Delroy) Concur Lelhman, Douglas (Judy) Moncur, and Nancy Taylor.
