David John Colbert Sr., 80, of West Valley City, UT passed away peacefully in his home Saturday, October 12, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. David was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Born to Harold John Colbert and Helen Harvey Cox Colbert. David is survived by his loving wife, best friend, high school sweetheart, secret keeper, mischief partner, lover and wife of over 60 years, Karen Ethel Woolsey Colbert whom he married on May 16, 1964, and their three sons David John Colbert Jr. and wife, Nona. Jody Raymond Colbert and wife, Kori. Christopher Michael (Mike) Colbert and wife Jenny. Preceded in death by his two sisters Helen Colbert and Beverly Jane (Mel) Draper and his granddaughter Hailey Colbert. David was a dedicated and loving husband and father. David enjoyed spending time with his wife and their family which grew to include nine grandchildren: Kristin (Brandon) Harris, Kelli (Christopher)Hurst, David (Emily) Colbert, Kimberly (Ryan) Butcher, Kyleigh Blanchard, Kaitlyn Blanchard, Christopher Wennerstrom, Patrick Colbert, and Lydia Colbert; as well as 12 great grandchildren.
David was a skilled furniture maker whose hobbies included: woodworking projects consisting of making frames for his wife’s paintings, fishing, and spending time at his cabin at Strawberry Reservoir.He proudly served in the Coast Guard from 1963 – 1971 and retired from a career in the automobile industry.
David will be missed dearly by his family and friends. He was always an observant, protective and wise presence in any room. A patient and loving grandfather who taught any one of his grandkids who showed interest how to build the perfect birdhouse.
